CANARY CLUB TO REOPEN BY MICK DOCKING
The Government’s worst kept secret over the last few weeks has been the decision to bow to increasing economic pressure and relax lockdown by moving away from a rigid two metre social distancing limit, to a one metre distancing limit thereby enabling pubs and restaurants to think about re-opening. The concession has been to exchange two metres for one metre provided always that risk mitigating steps are also taken.

After due consideration we decided that we could meet the new guidance and we would re-open from 4 July 2020.

The Canary Club is less constricted for space both inside and out than many establishments. However, in order to make the premises both compliant and as safe as possible for both staff and patrons, a number of operational changes needed to be introduced.

Accordingly, new more rigorous cleaning routines are in practice throughout the clubhouse. Lavatories will be inspected regularly and all surfaces will be regularly cleaned and de-sanitised throughout opening hours. Hand sanitising equipment will be available for customer use both at the entrance and at numerous points around the Club

A “one way” system will be in operation with separate entry and exit doors.

No standing/sitting at the bar will be permitted and table service introduced. All seating areas will be compliant with the new social distancing regime. Wherever possible payment should be made by card.

Whilst the weather permits we will encourage use of our outside areas – it being widely acknowledged that it remains that bit safer outdoors.

Initially daytime opening hours during weekdays will be restricted, but these will be reviewed as necessary to meet customers’ demands.

Pop in and visit us – Steve and his staff are waiting to share all those lockdown stories.

LATEST 50/50 DRAW
Why not buy a ticket for the fourth monthly Hitchin Town virtual 50/50 draw. Tickets can be purchased online.

The draw will take place live on the club Twitter account on Wednesday 8th July at 7:45pm. Tickets can now be purchased and will be on sale until 5.00pm on the day of the draw.

You can buy as many tickets as you like and they will cost £1. We will again be donating 20% of the total take to the East and North Herts NHS Trust to show our support for their incredible efforts. We will then split the remainder 50/50 between the winner of the draw and the Club.

EASYFUNDRAISING BY RUPERT RUSSELL
Just a reminder that while people are spending more time at home and possibly buying more on-line, using easyfundraising really is easy, costs you nothing, but raises funds for the club.

There are over 3,300 shops in the scheme including eBay, Amazon, Argos, John Lewis, Asda and Just Eat to mention just a few of them.

Initial registration is straight forward, then you do your on-line shopping as normal, just going via the easyfundraising website. Please do consider signing up and bringing in some totally free cash for the club.

You can sign up here.

TERRY MORTIMER
I received sad news from Tony Luff this week. He told me that Terry Mortimer had died after a brave battle with cancer. Terry played 52 games for Hitchin scoring 9 goals in the 1980/81 season. Tony described Terry as a real character who was a very good footballer. He also played for Bedford and Kettering. We send our condolences to Terry’s family.

GROUND REPORT BY STEVE BARKER
Today we completed the demolition of the old shed, which I’m informed came from Knebworth station. Can anyone confirm that?

Work was interrupted several times by much needed rain but we managed to complete the task. A skip will be needed to load up with everything that can’t be recycled and lots of other unwanted material around the ground.

Only a quarter of the pitch was cut today due to the rain and the thickness of the grass which clogged up the mower. Another cut will be done midweek.

Next Saturday we plan to erect a new timber wall to enclose the tractor shed at the rear of the demolished shed.
