Our Hitchin Town News December 2019

A Year For Our Businesses!

This year Hitchin BID has really focused on ensuring all its projects and initiatives benefit as many town centre businesses as possible.
Our events saw a huge increase in ‘street days’ across the town which were aimed at highlighting our eclectic mix of independent businesses, services and national multiples. It was very humbling to see so many owners and managers getting involved in these street days and proved that joined up thinking and collaborative working really does go a long way to delivering increased awareness and footfall. We are continuing these street days into 2020 and adding a number of exciting new events including Hitchin Pride and a Soapbox Derby!

Town centres have become about much more than just shopping. Events play an integral part in creating immersive experiences for the public. The BID is here to ensure there is always something exciting for people of all ages to participate in while at the same time, ensuring that businesses benefit from the increased footfall. If you have any event ideas, improvements to existing events or would like to put something on yourself next year and need support, please get in touch!

New Tyre & MOT Centre
The Car Agents have just invested again in Hitchin Town, with their new MOT Centre incorporating the latest in 4 wheel alignment equipment.
Along side the MOT Centre, sits their new Tyre Centre with all brands and sizes supplied and fitted. Most sizes are carried in stock for Devanti Tyres, which offer a free replacement should you be unlucky enough to damage your new tyre due to puncture, curbing or a dreaded pothole.
Give them call and find out why their Service Centre is rated 5 Stars on Google!

High Street Awards
Due to rules surrounding Government campaigns in the pre-election period, the Great British High Street Awards Ceremony, which is run by Central Government, has been postponed and will take place on 23rd January 2020. Fingers crossed!

Bollard Painting
Following comments from the public and businesses regarding the need to ‘spruce up’ the town, we have been working with ReAssure who have kindly agreed to offer up 40 volunteers to re-paint the blue and silver bollards in the town.

Thank you to Cllr Billing, Cllr Ashley and Hitchin Initiative for funding the paint and brushes! This project is due to be carried out in December/January.

Hitchin Lates
Many shops and eateries will be open until 8.30pm on the three Thursdays in December: 5th,12th & 19th— a chance to show Hitchin what you have on offer for Christmas!

Hitchin Lates is a great opportunity to open your trade up to customers who might not be able to get to you during the day, parents who want to shop without children, people who might visit out of town shopping centres and miss you at the weekends and to offer that little extra to your regulars.

No pressure to partake but it would be amazing to see as many open as possible!

Please let us know if you are opening so that we can include you on the website and social media channels and get a poster to you:

The Rickshaw Challenge
Hitchin turned out in force last month as the BBC Children In Need Rickshaw Challenge arrived in town!

The Sea Cadets marching band met Matt Baker and his team to lead them on to the Market Place where hundreds of people, including local schools Kingshott and Wilshere-Dacre Academy, waited to cheer them on before their final destination at Elstree Studios.
