HITCHIN TOWN LADIES FC
Match report by Callum Ellis:
"Hitchin Town Ladies returned to action on Sunday for the first time since the end of November. After disappointing results against Letchworth & Welwyn it was time to return to winning ways. With illness and injuries running through the team we did have the positive of the return of Club Secretary Louise Gash after 10 months out due to having a baby.
Woburn were struggling to field an 11 a side team but came out in force and took the game to Hitchin. Hitchin were on the back foot struggling to find space and shape. With Woburn clearing and counter attacking each time we were in for an entertaining game. The first goal of the game came from Hayley Watson. After a messy clearance from Woburn, Hayley was on hand to toe poke the first goal.
Woburn picked up the pace of the game and their counter attacking came quickly. Their equalising goal came from a 25 yard free kick. Woburn didn't look like they were playing with ten players either and they fought hard. However Chaffey lobbed the keeper only to find her effort ruled offside!
In the second half the game started to heat up as the cobwebs finally disappeared and the coughs and sniffling stopped for all of 45 minutes and the ladies upped their game. The second goal was the first for Hitchin Town Ladies for Bethan Lowe. After a lay off by McNamara, Lowe stormed into the box and slotted the ball home to make it 2-1. Chaffey again found the back of the net only to be ruled offside.
Good link up play with Thompson and Chaffey sent McNamara off to score the third for Hitchin. Woburn responded well and pushed the Hitchin defence right to the end. Woburn got their second when they found a gap in the defence and slotted past Friel.
A corner was given to Woburn within the last thirty seconds of the game and a small commotion occurred which resulted in Chaffey receiving a yellow for pulling players apart. However it did not stop the ladies clearing their lines and finishing with 3 points in the bag.
Considering the score line the last time we played Woburn it just shows that everyone can have a bad day at the office."
The Ladies host Evergreen Eagles on 14 January 2018 at Swinburne Avenue with a 1.30pm kick off.
