Autumn is here and the leaves are starting to turn gorgeous hues of golden yellow and orange. So wrap up warm and explore Hitchin’s best walks at this wonderful time of year. 

Best Autumn Walks In and Around Hitchin

If you’re planning on exploring the great outdoors in and around Hitchin, here are some of the best walks to take in autumn time…

Three Springs Walk

The Three Springs Walk begins at The Red Lion Pub in the Great Offley area of Hitchin. The circular route features some of the loveliest countryside of the northern Chilterns, taking you through tranquil lanes and a small woodland.

Hitchin Orbital Outer Path

This is Hitchin’s most well-known walking route, known as the HOOP. Allowing you to explore the town’s history as well as its beautiful natural landscape. This route takes you through nearby villages and surrounding countryside, encompassing a wide range of wildlife habitats as well as the striking lavender fields of Cadwell Farm (which look just as wonderful in autumn time).

Great Ashby Woodland Walk

Bluebells in springtime and golden hues in autumn make the Great Ashby Woodland Walk a treat all year round. If you’re planning on doing some autumnal nature photography, this is the place to come. This route will take you through Serpentine Wood, Claypithills Spring, Brooches Wood and Hangbois Wood.

The Hicca Way

Following the River Hiz Valley, The Hicca Way allows you to explore Arlesey, Ickleford, Hitchin and Charlton. Following the river paths, this walk presents some of the region’s most spectacular wildlife and plant life. Many sections of the original river remain in good condition, supporting a diversity of water plants and Willow trees line the bank, making it a beautiful spot at this time of year.
