Vintage Bay Hitchin Nominated for Best Gift Shop in Hertfordshire

Vintage Bay Hitchin Nominated for Best Gift Shop in Hertfordshire

Vintage Bay in Hitchin has been nominated as one of the best gift shops in Hertfordshire by Muddy Stilettos.

The owner of Vintage Bay, Amy has been running this special boutique since January this year and has already become celebrated in the local area.

Vintage Bay sells everything from old to new, including vintage Skis and Sledges from Switzerland and Austria to Amish Barn Stars from Pennsylvania as well as Australian sheep skin rugs, premium skin-care products, cards, soywax candles and circus lights just to name a few!

Amy named her business after her two-year-old son named Rex Bay, the shop is definitely themed and revolves around her family, Amy says that many customers feel really at home when they visit. In keeping with her family roots her whole family have helped establish the business, her brother designed the logo, her step-dad and mother helped with the conversion and her partner occasionally works in the shop.

Amy states that her childhood and upbringing was the driving force and inspiration for her business, she grew up on steam engines and in fair-grounds, introducing her to all-sorts of wonderful and interesting imagery and items.

Amy wasn’t always a savvy shop owner, previously she worked as a police officer for 8 years in TVP and then in the Met as a firearms and riot squad officer, while there she raced for the Met ski team in the alps, this is where she fell in love with vintage skis and cow bells.

While working in the service she lived in Camden town, exploring the vintage markets and shops. When she first resigned from the service, she had a vintage style Piaggio Ape coffee cart, she would hang her granny’s old kitchenware in the van and people would ask if they could buy it. After this, she decided that she wanted to start selling vintage goods in emporiums all around the country and then finally had the opportunity to open her own shop right in the heart of Hitchin.

Amy says one of the most exciting things about owning her shop is finding items to sell, she travels around the country and world to source these specially curated items and brings them home to Hitchin.

Amy is one of Hitchin’s amazing ladies, please help support her business, visit her shop and vote for her HERE and don’t forget to support other local businesses by voting in the other great categories.
